I served on Sara from 88-92; from when the ship was completly torn apart in Postsmouth drydock, all the way through Desert Shield/Storm. I worked in the only V-to-be V1. I also did a long tour on the Inport Fire Party (to keep the adrenaline rushing). Those years were definatley the best of times, and the worst of times. There is not a day that I don't think about my fallen shipmates and their families. They made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Although I dreaded every FOD walkdown, and many a corn broom slipped out of my hands and into the sea during flight deck washdown, I think my time spent on that old girl has truly formed into a better human being.

Served aboard w/VF-74 from '85-'87. F-14 Plane Captain during the "Achille Lauro" Med Cruise, then headed below the roof and crossrated to YN3(AW) for the '87 cruise. Would love to head out east to see the boat again; like many SARA veterans, I still bear the shin reminders of kneeknockers gone too fast over! If anybody comes across some folks who served w/VF-74 during my aforementioned service period, I'd like to know how things went for them after they left the Navy. I do know that one of VF-74's pilots, Lt. Brent Jett, went on to become a Navy Test Pilot and is today a full commander who has completed at least three Space Shuttle Missions as Pilot/Astronaut.

Served on board the great lady Super Sara from '82 - '85 in E-Division. Great memories are all I have about my shipmates serving at that time on and off the ship. Serving on the Saratoga and the decisions I had made that have long term implications while I was there have served me well. It is time to give back! And last but not least, I miss all the people I served with and I will never forget you.

I was attached to VF 103 during the 1980 Med cruise right before Sara went into SLEP. I was assigned to AIMD for most of the cruise (ECM shop) for most of the cruise. It was quite disappointing to hear she was decommissioned. I would love to hear from anyone who served with VF 103 during that timeframe.

Hello shipmates,i served on Sara from 1/86 until 7/89 first in personel and then as a BM in Deck Dept.i sure do miss the old girl and all the good friends i made in ships company.i have been searching for all my old friends for years now.i call my quest "looking for friends lost at sea".the reason i call it that is because i lost contact with almost everyone when Sara left on the cruise that took them into Desert Storm.i have found a few of them in the past 6 months.guys like Coop,Symo

Very cool web site honoring the "SuperSara" I reported aboard the re-commisioning detachment in June 1981 at NOB Norolk, VA. I was it's first BEQ Manager. 14 months later I arrived to #3 Main Machinery Room 3 months before we left the yards in Philly. Later, my wife sailed with me along with several thousand other dependants to our new home port of Jacksonville, FL. The only cruise I made was the "Love Boat" cruise in 83' where we spent more time in port than underway. I got so sick of Naples, Italy.
